Best Gigs of 2024
This year really was all about MJ Lenderman for me. Not only did I see him with his other band Wednesday finally (their last album ruled 2023 for me), but I also saw him doing his first ever UK solo show all by himself at Rough Trade East (and got to meet the man himself) and saw him twice with his incredible backing band The Wind at the fantastic intimate shows at The Garage.
I really feel so blessed to have seen him so many times! On top of this I was also obsessed with Waxahatchee's latest album, Tigers Blood, which of course boasts guitar work and backing vocals from Lenderman. While he wasn't at the concert, I still got to see a fantastic gig from Waxahatchee that more than made up a disappointing festival show with Stevie Nicks (I really feel my Hyde Park/festival going days may be behind me).
I was also lucky enough to go to 30 gigs this year! So I had so many great ones to choose from for my favourites this year. It was particularly exciting to see Kim Gordon and Kim Deal within days of each other and finally experience Bikini Kill live, a band I should have gone to see years ago! But perhaps the most meaningful was getting to attend the tribute to Mark Lanegan and seeing so many amazing artists celebrating the man and his music.
What a fantastic year for music this has been, I hope 2025 will be just as good!
