Best Gigs Of 2019
I didn't go to as many shows this year but it was definitely quality over quantity as there were still so many memorable moments.
I kicked off the year in style with one of the best country acts around at the moment, the wonderful Ashley Monroe and was lucky to see other awesome singer-songwriters such as the brilliant Ryan Bingham, the hilarious Hawksley Workman and awe-inspiring Jenny Lewis, who has turned from indie icon to full blown all-round entertainer. Every time I see her live she amazes me more plus the super-glam outfits are always great to see.
I almost described Bat For Lashes as a newer artist but she's actually been around for 13 years now and has just turned 40 but she feels as fresh as ever and her intimate show at EartH was a fantastic showcase of her entire career. Weyes Blood on the other hand has four albums under her belt but is new to me and her Electric Brixton show was something of a revelation.
I also had some nice moments of nostalgia seeing the incredible Juliana Hatfield again and catching the iconic Liz Phair live for the first time. I was also lucky enough to score a free ticket to see one of my all-time fave bands, The Who with special guest Eddie Vedder, at the vast and slightly over-whelming Wembley Stadium.
I would have the legendary John Prine to add to this list but sadly he cancelled due to ill health. Thankfully though he rescheduled for 2020 so hopefully it will kick off the year and even the decade in style and be a sign of good gigs to come!
