Isle Of Dogs exhibition
So after seeing and falling in love with the new Wes Anderson movie Isle Of Dogs earlier this week, I then took a trip up London to The Store X on The Strand to see the free exhibition, curated by Anderson himself, featuring the sets and models used in the actual film. Not surprisingly it was absolutely magical and well worth the 45 minute queue to get in!
The sets were miniature objects of beauty: so intricate and detailed and full of wonder. The puppets, particularly the dog stars of the movie, were particularly amazing and, although intentionally not realistic, still incredibly life-like.
The first little set was this amazing recreation of a fictional Japanese city at night all lit up and full of brilliant tiny details. There were also rooms, laboratories, bars, abandoned fairgrounds and Japanese temples, all beautifully created to bring the little, magical world of Isle Of Dogs to life.
On top of the miniature sets, there was also a full size recreation of the noodle bar featured in the film that was serving real food and, although I didn't stop to taste any of it (I couldn't take any more queues), smelled absolutely delicious and made you feel like you were actually stepping into the film.
I can't believe it was free! I'm so glad I didn't miss it. It was a little slice of Wes Anderson world and a truly wonderful experience. Here's some more photos of this brilliant exhibition!
