Performing acoustically but this time flying solo, was former frontman of one of New Zealand's finest ever musical exports, The Mutton Birds, Mr Don McGlashan.
And the jovial, tanned euphonium-playing Kiwi was in no mood to let us forget that, because, despite being over in the UK to promote his first solo outing Warm Hand (which admittedly is a couple of years old now), McGlashan stuck to Mutton Birds classics and a handful of new tunes, not even playing one song from his album.
There was a promising threat to play Toy Factory Fire - probably the best track on the record - and calls for This Is London. But instead McGlashan got all nostalgic with a crowd-pleasing set that saw him delve far back into the band's back catalogue playing Dominion Road and A Thing Well Made from The Mutton Birds' 1992 debut, and delighting the Kiwi-heavy crowd with acoustic versions of songs like Envy Of Angels, Pulled Along By Love, Queen's English and the sing-along Anchor Me.
McGlashan revealed he has just finished a new album to be released some time this year and promised to come back with his band, which after witnessing this little gem of a show, is certain to be a must-see.
